About options and choosing
“You’re supposed to like and do just one thing and one thing only, until the day you die"... said no one ever.
I like different things. And I bet that if you hear this from any regular person, you don’t think much of it, do you? It’s actually quite the norm. You expect people to experiment with different things and to actually like different things, don’t you? Yet, when it comes to art, people suddenly expect artists to produce basically the same thing over and over again, until the day they die. They’re supposed to find their style, perfect it and be known for it.
It seems like a pretty legit idea, but it’s actually very limiting.
I never really liked labels and this is just another one that I refuse to accept. Labels only really exist to keep us boxed into specific categories. But the thing about boxes is that they can be quite suffocating. And I really like air… So no. Thank you, but no thank you.
I like different things.
I like fine art, writing and illustrating children's book, creating animations with the illustrations I make, and many other things. And as an artist, I’m ok with that.
In fact, I’m so ok with that, that I’m sharing it. I created a monthly calendar with my illustrations and you can expect to receive a brand new one every month if you enter your information here. You can either print it or use it as a desktop wallpaper.
Because options are a good thing and you don’t have to limit yourself to just one, if you don't want to. |
